SSG party, beefs up the students friendship

Acquaintance Party marked every students mind who pop- up the event because of the beautiful and admirable faces of the candidates for "Mr. and Ms. Popularity 2010". It was held at Lumban National High school, 30th of July. Ms. Bernadette Vanessa Mae S. Bautista, from II- Diamond declared as Ms. Popularity 2010. Mr. Fredimel Ordinado of IV-Jupiter, became the Mr. Popularity 2010. 50% of criteria for judging were money contest as the fund- raising for the settlement of such school.

Exactly 8pm the programme started, preceded by the most awaited pageant. Each competitor showed their casual wear, sports wear, long gown and formal attire for men. There are candidates that show uniqueness that result to their win. You can heard the loud voice of the crowd that support the contestant they like. While everyone is waiting for the result of scores, SSG officers let the students to dance and have fun.

Mr. Wee- Jay Era, President (SSG) and Ms. Blesilda Camile Rabie, Teacher (English I) are the Master of Ceremonies. Mr. Nilo Y. de Robles, Principal (Lumban NHS) headed the oath- taking of the newly elected officers of SSG.

Almost 1000 student jam- packed the celebration and almost had smile on their faces when they went back home. Great thing that there are unity between students and teachers that showed a good example for each and everyone. SSG party was not only for the money that they could get but also to remove the shame and to beefs up the friendship that every student had.

While the virus appears less deadly than originally thought, swine flu continues to spread

A/CA/4/09 swine flu virus Clearly the CDC didn't get the memo from the pork industry about not calling it "swine flu" anymore... courtesy of CDC/ C. S. Goldsmith and A. Balish
So, despite some media hysteria last week, it looks like the swine flu won't be the death of us all. However, that does not mean the virus has stopped spreading, or that it won't reach pandemic levels and possibly cause significant economic damage.
The Wall Street Journal took a look at some those possible economic consequences, in particular the effect the outbreak might have on vaccine manufacturers. The article notes: "The Obama administration is weeks away from a critical decision on whether to trigger mass production of swine-flu vaccine, which could affect the bottom lines of big vaccine makers as well as public health."
In this case, overreaction could cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars, while underreaction could cost the vaccine companies dearly and negatively impact public health. As Ross Hammond, a flu researcher at the Brookings Institute told PopSci, "Underreaction is dangerous because it interferes with the timing of deploying sufficient measures to prevent the pandemic from getting out of control. Overreaction is bad because it can lead to gridlock, unnecessary confusion, and unnecessary economic consequences." With under- and overreaction so bad, let's hope the government manages to hit the sweet spot of "reaction."
The Associated Press has two slightly dire stores. The first shows that the swine flu has moved to the next level in the U.S., with 90 percent of flu victims receiving the infection in the U.S. rather than during time spent in Mexico. The second AP story quotes a World Health Organization official as saying this virus may infect as many as two billion people.
However, that official does say, "I don't think the two billion figure should scare people because it's not as though two billion people are going to die. The prediction from WHO is that two billion people might catch it. Half of those people won't show any symptoms. Or if they show any symptoms, they will be so mild they will hardly know they've had it." Meaning there is really no reason to start stocking canned goods.

Awesome Ferrari Stimulator

Ferrari Simulator This image shows the robotic arm Ferrari simulator without a steering wheel attached. The simulator includes a force-feedback steering wheel and pedals. via Cyberneum
Paolo Robuffo Giordano and colleagues at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen, Germany, must really enjoy their jobs. Their CyberMotion Simulator is intended to realistically replicate the experience of driving a Ferrari without actually having to buy one.
Players sit in a cabin on a robot arm about 7 feet off the ground and drive a Ferrari F2007 car around a projected track. The robot arm, a type usually found in amusement parks, whips the driver around to simulate the Ferrari's motion, according to IEEE Spectrum. You can hear the robot whine as the driver tries to turn at high speed.
The researchers wanted to use a robotic arm as a motion simulator with the goal of understanding how humans experience the sensation of motion. They figured an F1 racing game would be a good way to do it, IEEE Spectrum reports. They presented a paper on their design at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation this spring.
As we learned earlier this week, video games can contribute plenty to real science. But this might be a case of science making a pretty awesome video game experience.
